I wanted to share some things I made for a related, but different celebration. A couple of years ago, a friend officially became a United States citizen. After she was finally able to take the exam, which she passed with flying colors, we threw what came to be an annual "America Party." We really wanted to celebrate her accomplishment and welcome her to this fine country. It ended up that red, white, and blue themed parties are kind of addicting, so it became a sort of annual Second-Fourth-of-July.
Luckily I still have a few photos of the treats I made for one of the America Parties. There were many more and a whole lot of American-flag toothpicks and tank tops, but these three treats were BIG hits!

A Healthy America
America Strawberries:
1. Wash and dry your strawberries.
2. Melt white almond bark (or white chocolate chips) in a saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently.
3. While that is going, pour blue, sugar sprinkles into a bowl.
4. Dip the strawberries in the white almond bark. Dip them about 2/3 deep, so that you have a stripe of red still at the top of the berry.
5. Immediately after dipping a berry in the white, dip the bottom 1/3 in the blue sprinkles. It should look red, white, and blue!
6. Set the dipped and sugared berries on a sheet of wax paper on a pan or large plate. Pop them in the fridge to harden and take them out at party time!
America Cupcakes:
1. Follow the instructions on a box of cake mix for regular cupcakes (whichever flavor you want!).
2. Let the cupcakes cool.
3. Once cooled, frost them with white, vanilla frosting.
4. Cut up a red Fruit-by-the-Foot snack to make the red stripes.
5. Place blueberries on the left side of each cupcake in two rows.
6. Then, place the red stripes on the right side.
Even though the Fruit-by-the-Foot may seem weird with fruit and on a cupcake with frosting, these were delicious!!! They did not last long at the party.
A Healthy America:
1. Starting with about 2 pints of rinsed strawberries, cut the tops off and slice them in half.
2. Slice a few bananas into chunks about 3/4 inch thick.
3. Rinse your blueberries.
4. Using bamboo skewers or any sort of kabob skewer, slide the fruits on. Alternate banana and strawberries for 3/4 or so of the skewers and then for the last 1/4 start with blueberries for the blue part of the flag and then continue the strawberries and bananas.
5. Arrange on a plate. :)
These were all super easy to do! The most time-consuming part was cutting the stripes for the cupcakes (but that was so worth it!). And the most planning-ahead-part was baking the cupcakes and letting them cool in time.
Happy Independence Day, friends!
With love,
R
